The micro and macro always reflect each other.
In a recent speech, the Irish president questioned the obsession with economic growth at the expense of our well-being and environment.
On the micro level, we are encouraged to be just as obsessed with making more money and achieving more success, usually at the expense of our health and general well-being. In fact, we work ourselves to the ground, so we get some vacation time after 65.
A system that does not improve our quality of life is broken!
Here’s how to change that:
- What if we insist that every country introduces and prioritises a People Happiness Index?
- What if we insist policymakers make policy decisions on improving people’s quality of life?
- What if resources in the form of people, economics and logistics are directed towards increasing the Happiness Index?
There are enough resources for everyone to live a comfortable and engaged life – it is purely a matter of willingness and distribution.
We will finally contribute our work towards a meaningful outcome rather than making a few individuals richer.
